Tags: 2006, 2007, HIV/AIDS, NutritionIn March 2006 a small group of Cornell students developed Project Kenya in response to an NGO’s need for interactive nutrition education in its curriculum. This Kenyan NGO, ICODEI (Inter-Community Development Involvement), relies on nutrition education as a cost effective, accessible strategy for HIV/AIDS affected, low-resource communities.
Students involved in Project Kenya have the opportunity to implement three day education seminars focusing on HIV prevention, general nutrition, and the health benefits of proper nutrition for those affected by HIV/AIDS.
- Module 1: Basic Nutrition, Immune System, Malnutrition, HIV/AIDS
- Module 2: Protein, Iron, Vitamin A, Iodine, Breastfeeding
- Module 3: Food Safety & Hygiene, Diarrhea, Malaria, Cumulative Quiz
At the conclusion of the seminars, participants are given a cumulative quiz to test their knowledge. Those who pass are issued a Certificate of Completion validated by Project Kenya instructors as well as the executive director of ICODEI (Reuben Lubanga).
